Walking in Beauty

It has been an incredible week with Mother Nature.  And I embrace it all...the snow, the ice...the mud from the 72 degree day right in the middle of it all, and then back to another freezing rain, snow, ice to end this glorious week!  TGIF, that is for sure!

This card from the Native Spirit deck by Denise Linn, fell out at me today as I was organizing my very messy desk and sitting down to tea.

This card speaks of the Native American tradition of very simply walking in beauty.  In the Navajo tradition it is called, "hozho naasha" and it means being in balance with a natural way of life!

How perfect! Because Mother Nature provides us with the perfect backdrop in order to tune in to the very spirit of the natural world around us on this great Earth.  And for me, I love it all.  Nothing is more spiritual and peaceful to me than to be out of doors in the softly falling snow, or a gentle rain knowing that these natural events are nurturing all that is LIFE!

So, on this day, tune into the beauty around you.  Take a look in the mirror and note the beauty of your very own self!  Create beauty around your home, at work.  Spread beauty to everyone you meet along the way with a sweet and genuine smile and a very simple greeting of "HELLO".
It may just be the very spark that they need to get them through this BEAUTIFUL DAY!
Lovely stained glass crow feathers from Judie!
Yes, WALK IN BEAUTY...negativity has no place there!
And if you find a feather, pick it was placed in your path for you to find!

Thanks for stopping by!  Aloha!

SOAR in 2018!!!

This holiday season, has been such a whirlwind...and I really enjoyed every bit of it!  It just comes and goes all too quickly.  And while I was busy on the home front making sure that every little thing was festive and bright for family and friends, I was not able to focus on anything related to the coming of a New Year...2018!

In the past I have chosen a word that reflected my spirit at the time the New Year rolled around.  I'm not big on resolutions, but a word to guide me throughout the year has been a somewhat grounding force.  This year, a word did not present itself to me, leading me into a bit of a this old photograph I took years ago.

I was out and about in the frigid temps of the northeast freeze on New Year's day running the dog around through the woods, and really tuning into the quiet stillness that Mother Nature provided for the day.  I was tapped into the natural sounds of the creaking trees as they blew in the high winds, for that day the Native Spirit oracle card that chose me was ANCIENT FOREST.
I was breathing in the crisp, clean and very cold air, for the Spirit of Air is what keeps us universally connected to one another.  Yet, a word never did present itself to me...that is until this very morning while looking out my windows into my woods...and it hit me!!!
That is my entire SOAR!  Each and every day, I have opportunities, and many choices.  I have many new ideas and projects on the horizon that will allow me to do just that!!!

S pirit
O rganize
A nalyze
R ealize

And there it is...I will reach...and I will achieve...and I will fulfill all the many dreams that have not been allowed to come to fruition because of the detours and distractions that take place when I am not paying attention to my soul!
It's all so clear to me now...ONWARD 2018!!!

With Love and Peace and Great JOY in abundance to one and all!

Tis the Season

Tis the season for giving...

And with the help of my fellow ukulele strummers we managed to hit 3 locations in 3 days.

The local medical center for the Feel Good Concert series, greeting visitors with Mele Kalikimaka and really putting Silent Night into the proper perspective.

After that we were off to one of the nursing homes, where the residents were decked out in their best holiday fashions, including blinged out wheelchairs, Santa hats and, of course, leis.
The best part of this gig was the few ladies in the front row telling me they were abit "naughty" and not sure that Santa would be stopping by!!!  LOL we did!

Then off to the Annual Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots Drive.
Guess all the playing of "Let It Snow" did the trick, because this event went off in a full snow storm.  Good food, good cheer, good friends.  A great community event with the true spirit of Christmas at heart....the donation of toys for the children!

So, let's continue on with the Spirit of Giving.  Practice those RAK's, (Random Acts of Kindness) throughout the holiday season.
Bake cookies for a neighbor, shovel some snow, say "hello" to friends you know and everyone you meet!

Fa la la...and all that jazz!

In these crazy days of angst and turmoil, hatred and negativity that seems to lead the daily newscasts of late, I choose to join in the WE ARE THE WORLD BLOGFEST to counter all of that with a message of light that brings me GREAT JOY!
I belong to a ukulele club that goes out and about to strum at the local hospital as well as for the residents of local nursing homes.  It's a "feel good" time for everyone, including the 6 - 8 strummers who all volunteer their time to spread the joyful sounds of the ukulele.

Many of the senior residents that we visit do not have family members close by, and the interaction with them brings smiles to all of our faces.  I like to take along a few extra ukes to hand out, and encourage them to just strum along, even though they don't know how to play, while the others are singing along and crooning to their long lost loved ones.  Although, a couple former guitar players were able to join in on uke for fun.  Two gentlemen come in their wheelchairs with their bongo drums to play with us, too!  It's really a grand old time.

So instead of focusing on the darkest bits of society, how about we focus on what we as individuals can do to shine the light.  Here's one individual who is doing just that... Dr. Paulo Martins of the Hospital das Clinicas in Ribeirao Preto who plays his ukulele for a young cancer patient!

Music truly is a universal language...

And here are some members of our ukulele group who love to strum for fun!
The feeling you get in return for making a difference, makes it all worthwhile!
Won't you join me?

Birds of a feather...

As Summer rolls right into Autumn, I find myself gathering...  I've been gathering odds and ends that have been tossed around in my studio (aka dining room), and creating these little journals.  Measuring a mere 4-1/2" x 6", I do have a collection of them that I roll out at local festivals for sale, and some are gifted to special friends.  I recently gifted one of my mini journals to a friend who teaches "Creative Writing".  And boy can she write...poetry, short stories, she's an excellent teacher. What better prompt for a great short story than this cover.  Denim, tattered lace, vintage button and papers...
turn the page...
36 pages are all coffee stained, and I've included a couple pockets with a couple journaling cards.

yes...turn the page...tell your story...

back cover
It all ties up with a black suede strap to hold your secrets tight!
What story could you tell in here as you...turn the page???

Where does the time go?

Well, I have no idea how my last post was in May, and the summer has slipped right by me without so much as a summer swim.  Or even a getaway!!!

Being busy is a good thing, especially when it is work related.  And I do love my job.  However, I have learned that busy-ness also has to be accompanied by quiet time.  Turn off the  mind babble.  Peaceful existence requires downtime, plain and simple.

So, make the time to BE in the NOW.  For that really is all we have available to us.  We cannot change yesterday...and we are not guaranteed tomorrow.

Yes, time waits for no each moment to the fullest...starting IN THE NOW!

Kindness Challenge

Well an online friend, Deborah Weber at Temenos of the Blessing Light is quite a busy lady spreading her good intentions and positive vibrations throughout the universe for anyone who may be paying attention...

Not only do I receive wonderful notes of love and joy and harmony from her via good old fashioned snail mail, she is always online with some wonderful folks around the globe doing her part to help reach those who may be in darkness, seeking the light.  Of course, she always inspires me to join in.

My way of spreading some light and joy through kindness is by strumming my ukulele at some of the nursing homes in our area.  When I get together with my ukulele ensemble, it is always the best time ever, with plenty of laughs.  Laughter is truly the best medicine!  Especially in a nursing home!
I have to tell you, that not only are the residents feeling the love, but I am warmed so much by the very same emotion when I see them swaying, and smiling and hearing them sing along, is just the icing on the cake.

So get out there and see if you can't spread some wonderful love and joy through your own act of Kindness...the feeling you get from doing so, will be your just reward!  We are connected!  Sing along...

Stop by for more info on the Kindness Challenge.

 Thanks for stopping by!

When will it be Spring?

The deer have come in from the woods to take advantage of the food set out for the birds.   And when they have comes the rest of the wild ones looking for their fair share!

I love watching the wild turkeys.  And some of these guys stayed for a good 45 minutes digging and scraping through the remains of our recent winter madness.
This drove the dog crazy from indoors... let me at 'em!
Oh, to live in the country!

Political Correctness

So what's the deal with all this "political correctness"?  You can't say this, you can't say that...oh but the first amendment is all about freedom of speech.  Right?

Well how about if the press is pushing it's own agenda?  Hello?  How is it that they can get out there and say whatever they want, truth or not?

Alot of propoganda out there from the so-called press.  And while our family watched the 45th President of these United States, and his family attend the Inter-Faith National Prayer service, which included a Muslim prayer, on the day after the inauguration, the mainstream media is covering Madonna and others, who have disgraced themselves in the name of women!  What a sham!  And what a crying shame!  Yes, I am a woman, and those people do not speak for me on any score.  Especially with that nasty, vile tone they use!

And while I know people who attended the Women's March, I respect their right to do so, I would never allow my daughter to listen to the garbage that some of those celebrity hate mongers spewed that day.  It is shameful how they have used women as a means to keep dividing the country even further.....and for what?

We are all born of the same life force.  You can call it by any name you choose.  And some of the great divide comes from organized religion. There is only one judge.  And I am not talking about the one with a gavel, who throws your butt in jail for wreaking havoc on our otherwise civilized society.  Get a grip.   And take a look in the mirror.  Is this what your mother intended you do with your life?  Raise hell, cause trouble?  Really!

This is not a Christian or Muslim issue.  This is not a gender issue...and it is certainly not a race issue, which is very bad in our great land, thanks to the press who loves this type of conflict.

To each his own! It is so!  Let us not try to divide and conquer ~ let us love and nurture and give of ourselves to try and save what is left of humanity!  For it is humanity that is killing itself.  And it has nothing to do with guns!

Oh, I am woman, a proud, hard-working woman.  A wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter...and I am blessed with the Grace of God...just like everyone else.  The difference between me and them is quite simple...I am letting my light shine!  It is bright, and it is beautiful, and it is a gift, and nobody can take that away from me.

Not even a man!

A Brand New Day

It's a brand new day, a brand new month, in a brand new year...2017!  And as I sit here at my window, looking out through the woods at the squirrels scurrying around for hidden acorns in the snow I am tuned into the very frequency that brings all of this natural beauty to me.

The Christmas season is glorious in its own right.  Add to that, the beauty of Mother Nature at her finest, well, what could be more spectacular!

While the black bears have gone into hibernation, the deer and the wild turkeys are still out and about looking for food.

The birds are well taken care of.  And soon, the Christmas tree will be hauled out into the woods to be decorated once again with strings of popcorn and fruit for the winter creatures that are one with me:)

I wish you all Love, and Peace and Great Joy for 2017...Health and Prosperity, abundance!

Art Abandonment

Tis the season to be jolly, right?  So, let's do it!  Now I know there are many obstacles in the way of just feeling happy and jolly.

Having a death in our family last week, definitely puts a damper on the Christmas Spirit.  It is a process to get in the groove from mourning to FA LA LA.

And this old photo does help, since old man winter has finally appeared in the Northeast.  And seeing this picture again reminds me that life does go on.  Although, driving away from the funeral service, watching life go on all around us, I said out loud, "Wow, don't they know how drastically our families' lives have changed?"

It was in that moment that I realized once again, how blessed I am to come from such a large family.  That we all had each other to lean on at this terrible time made a difference, to all of us.

So in the true spirit of Christmas, regardless of your present circumstances, please dig down deep, and find something to be grateful for.  There is always something.  And then, see if you can find it in your heart to reach out to someone who is struggling, or someone who is all alone and lonely.  For in those deeds, the real magic and true spirit of Christmas is present.

Giving of yourself is the best gift of all!  I belong to an online group called Art Abandonment.  It's very simple.  You create a piece of art, and it can really be anything.  A colored picture, a photograph, a painting, little cards you knit or crochet, and just take it out in public and leave it somewhere with a note for someone.  The note can just say,

No strings don't even have to identify yourself.  Anonymous makes it much more special and fun! That is the gift you can give to yourself.  Knowing that you made a difference in someone's daily life.   Just do it!

So, from my heart to yours...FA LA LA, and all that jazz!

Love and Peace

We are one...tune in, to the message of your very own soul.  It is not spewing the hatred and talking points of the protests...or the news outlets.  Those are egos battling for attention, disgracing the very spirit that gives the soul life, with love and true peace.

Go inward...your soul is echoing the beating of your heart, with thankfulness and grace. Close your eyes and feel it.

Let's re-connect!

And always, always give thanks!  You are blessed, no matter what race, religion, gender...even if you are an atheist.  Yes, you too, are blessed...or you wouldn't even be here!

Now depending on how you choose to live your life, you may feel as though you are cursed.  The choice is yours.  The power of successful living comes from within!

So those of you who are reeling from the tumultuous election cycle...move on!  For life is passing you by, and time waits for no one!

Don't waste your soulful energy on is draining you of your true spirit!

How about this?  How about everyone get out there and perform one RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS for another. at a passing stranger and wish them a nice day.  Hold the door open for everyone.  Rake the neighbor's leaves...shovel the neighbor's snow, just to be nice.  Not for pay.  Bake cookies for someone.  Leave flowers on someone's doorstep.  And this is my favorite RAK...we always, always pay the bridge toll for the car behind us.

It's that simple!

And remember...always, always give thanks.

As the Autumn leaves succumb to rain and wind and yes, our first snow, we must remind ourselves that the changing of seasons is a gift from our Creator.  The very One that is truly the common thread in all that exists, no matter what belief system you engage in.

In our country where the topic of conversation, is not the beauty of the seasons, or the wonderful bounty of fall, but the battle between 2 very different and 2 very vocal candidates for the big job as President of these United States.

Yet, as I watch the news, which is very hard to do anymore, we are not as united as we should be as "the people".  Not only is there more division in this great land through racism, and sexism, and oh boy am I, as a woman tired of all that talk, the political process is a nightmare this time around.  I am quite sure this is not how it was meant to be for the election of our leader.

How is it that if one doesn't believe in another's viewpoints, or personal opinions, an all out battle ensues?  What ever happened to "to each his own"?  I have the right to disagree with you on your political viewpoints, or perhaps it is you, that disagrees with my views?  Whatever, we are individuals, and in a free society, those are our rights.  But, to take that disagreement and turn it into a physical, or a verbal assault on another's well being, is just plain wrong, and I just shake my head in disbelief at how quickly so many judge another.   For we will all be judged by our actions in the end.

There is only one judge...and I'm not talking about the one at the courthouse, after you get your butt arrested for violent protesting.  Where is your pride?  Have you no honor?  What about integrity?

WAKE UP AMERICA!  There's alot at stake in this great land...and it really has nothing to do with the crap of " He said, She said"...blah blah blah.  Get the facts and educate yourself fully before you go into that voting booth.  And yes, that too, is not only your right, but it is a privilege!

Everyone, thankfully, in our family is gainfully employed.  We do our fair share...we volunteer, we give back, we participate in our community events, including the church...and yes, we are proud of it!  Yes, we can look in the mirror each day and know that we make a difference in our society!  A positive difference!  And yes, we are proud of it!

You too, can make a difference.  It is your right.  But it is not your right to thrust yourself into my peaceable kingdom.  First, I will not allow it or accept it!  And second, your negative efforts will be infused with guilt and shame and will drain you of all that is truly good that lies deep within your soul!  Tune inward!  And if you have nothing nice to say to another....keep your mouth shut!

Remember..."do unto others".  And for your own salvation, always give thanks!

Autumnal Blessings

On this last day of Summer I am energized and very much looking forward to the glorious days of Autumn.  And my blog friend Deborah at Temenos of the Blessing Light always sends me the best snail mail to ring in the new season.

I mingled a few new fallen maple leaves and some of the goldenrod with her lovely, velvety soft scarlet red leaf attached to gorgeous shiny golden paper with this poem...

fragile twigs
breaking off the scarlet papers
autumn wind

~  Basho

Oh to Autumn and all of its gorgeous, colorful glory!

Thank you Deborah!

There is nothing more soothing to the soul as a soft summer rain in the early morn.  The sound of the rain summoned me from my sleep as I jumped out of bed to embrace it fully out of doors. My senses are alive as the birds rejoice in song and the trees put out a musical medley as the droplets hit the still green surface of the leaves.  As I walk in the rain, the cool sensation on my skin is the perfect remedy for 90 degree temperatures.

The plants and flowers nod in acceptance of their nourishment.

The bees are busy as the sun comes back around, ever so gently, in complete harmony with its partner in nature to go on duty.

A soft summer rain is glorious in its own right.  It is peaceful and calming and rejuvenating.  It is Mother Nature at work.

And I am grateful!
